Locative media for situated information

How can we place digital information in the physical world and make it readily available to be used where it really matters?

Locative media addresses a broad range of technologies aiming to connect us to surrounding spaces and people by blending the digital and physical worlds as part of integrated experiences. In this research area, we seek to explore new ways to combine the digital and physical dimensions of public and semi-public spaces. Our work includes studies on the essence of digital and physical affordances in hybrid environments and the dematerialization of public displays as an alternative path for addressing the technical challenges associated with physical screens. The key motivation for our work is to uncover major new opportunities to address some of the most fundamental challenges of locative media in regard to scale, density, physical integration and interaction expectations.
